In March 2026, Dr. Jiwu Chen, Vice Director of the Orthopaedic Clinical Center and Director of Sports Medicine at Shanghai General Hospital, was invited to China Central Television to record an episode of Life Circle on CCTV-1.

The program focused on the theme of spring outings and smart exercise. It aimed to help viewers across China understand scientific movement, injury prevention, and rehabilitation, offering authoritative and practical guidance for healthy outdoor activity in spring.

Spring is a peak season for outdoor activities such as hiking, cycling, and jogging. These activities are popular, but inappropriate intensity or poor preparation can lead to muscle strains, joint overload, and other common sports injuries.

Drawing on extensive clinical cases, Dr. Chen explained the common causes of spring sports injuries and systematic prevention strategies. He also offered personalized protection advice for different types of exercise.

Dr. Chen is a leading figure in sports medicine in China. He serves in several important academic roles, including Vice Chair of the Sports Medicine Branch of the China Research Hospital Association, Chair of the Sports Medicine Branch of the Shanghai Medical Association, and Deputy Head of the Sports Medicine Group of the Orthopaedic Branch of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association.

Clinically, Dr. Chen specializes in minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery. His expertise covers routine and reconstructive procedures for the shoulder, elbow, hip, knee, and ankle, including rotator cuff repair, cruciate ligament reconstruction, meniscus suturing, ankle ligament repair, and hip labral repair.

Beyond surgical care, Dr. Chen brings an international perspective and places strong emphasis on integrated orthopaedic rehabilitation. He actively promotes close collaboration between sports medicine and rehabilitation medicine to build a full-cycle rehabilitation pathway from preoperative care to postoperative recovery, home rehabilitation, and outpatient follow-up.

For non-surgical treatment and postoperative rehabilitation of sports injuries, Dr. Chen works with rehabilitation teams to design individualized exercise rehabilitation plans for patients.

The sports medicine team also values talent development and technical exchange. Each year, the department holds multiple high-level training courses, attracting physicians from China and abroad and continuing to expand its academic influence.
