Professor Jiwu Chen elected Chair of the Shanghai Medical Association Sports Medicine Branch

Professor Jiwu Chen was elected Chair of the 12th Committee of the Shanghai Medical Association Sports Medicine Branch after the branch completed its leadership transition.

On January 7, 2026, the Sports Medicine Branch of the Shanghai Medical Association successfully completed the election for its 12th Committee. Professor Jiwu Chen, Director of Sports Medicine at Shanghai General Hospital, was elected Chair of the 12th Committee of the Shanghai Medical Association Sports Medicine Branch.

Professor Chen holds an MD and PhD and is a doctoral supervisor, chief physician, and recognized leader in sports medicine. He currently serves as Chair of the Shanghai Medical Association Sports Medicine Branch, National Committee Member of the Chinese Medical Association Sports Medicine Branch, Vice Chair of the Sports Medicine Branch of the China Research Hospital Association, and Chair of the Sports Medicine Specialty Committee of the Yangtze River Delta Hospital Collaborative Development Strategic Alliance.

He also serves on several national and international academic bodies, including the ISAKOS Shoulder Committee, the Spine and Hip Group of the Chinese Medical Association Sports Medicine Branch, the Sports Medicine Group of the Orthopaedic Surgeons Branch of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association, the Sports Injury Branch of the China Medical Rescue Association, the Shoulder and Elbow Group of the Orthopaedic Branch of the China International Exchange and Promotive Association for Medical and Health Care, the Asian Hip Arthroscopy Society, and the Asia-Pacific Knee, Arthroscopy and Sports Medicine Society.

Clinically, Professor Chen focuses on minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery, including routine and reconstructive arthroscopic procedures for the shoulder, elbow, hip, knee, and ankle. His hip arthroscopy technique is internationally advanced, and he has demonstrated hip arthroscopy for physicians worldwide at ISAKOS, one of the leading international sports medicine conferences.

He also has extensive experience in massive rotator cuff tears, complex shoulder instability, knee ligament injuries, meniscus suturing, and elbow arthroscopy. To date, he has completed nearly 10,000 arthroscopic surgeries.
