Achilles tendinopathy treatment
Can Achilles pain be treated with corticosteroid injection?
Author: Dr. Jiwu Chen
Doctor’s answer
Corticosteroid injection into or around the Achilles tendon is generally not recommended because it may increase rupture risk. Achilles tendinopathy is more often treated with load adjustment, calf strengthening, orthoses or heel lifts, shockwave therapy, and similar options. Any injection treatment should be evaluated cautiously.
