Sports-related cervical injury
Does arm pain or numbness from cervical radiculopathy always require surgery in athletes?
Author: Dr. Jiwu Chen
Doctor’s answer
Most cervical radiculopathy can start with non-operative treatment, including short-term reduction of provoking movements, medication, physical therapy, and injection treatment when needed. Surgery is assessed when pain persists, neurological function worsens, weakness is clear, or training and daily life remain affected.
