Finger sports injury
Could sudden finger pain and weakness after climbing be a pulley injury?
Author: Dr. Jiwu Chen
Doctor’s answer
Yes. Flexor tendon pulley injuries are common with climbing grips and may cause palm-side finger pain, swelling, reduced grip strength, or bowstringing. Mild-to-moderate injuries often use protective taping and progressive loading; severe ruptures need specialist assessment.
