Lateral hip pain
Is outer hip pain when lying on that side bursitis or gluteal tendinopathy?
Author: Dr. Jiwu Chen
Doctor’s answer
Outer hip pain is often grouped as greater trochanteric pain syndrome and may involve the bursa, gluteus medius, or gluteus minimus tendons. Treatment usually reduces compression and stair, running, or jumping load while improving hip abductor strength. Recurrent pain may require injection or other options.
