Why assess cartilage and alignment before meniscal root repair?

Benefit depends on the whole joint. Marked varus or advanced cartilage wear may limit isolated repair and prompt discussion of osteotomy or other options. Symptomatic patients with preserved cartilage may suit repair; age or the MRI tear alone cannot decide.
