Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport
Can normal-weight or male athletes develop REDs?
Author: Dr. Jiwu Chen
Doctor’s answer
Yes. Any sex or body size can be affected, and stable weight does not exclude inadequate energy availability. Recurrent bone stress injuries, persistent fatigue, menstrual changes or low libido warrant assessment, improved fueling and training adjustment, while excluding other causes.
