Is therapeutic ultrasound a routine treatment for exercise-related low back pain?
Author: Dr. Jiwu Chen
Doctor’s answer
Current evidence does not support its routine use. NICE guidelines do not recommend therapeutic ultrasound for treating low back pain or sciatica, emphasizing education, appropriate activity, and exercise rehabilitation instead. Therapeutic ultrasound differs from musculoskeletal ultrasound used for diagnostic purposes.
