Hand and Wrist Injuries
After playing golf or swinging a racket, I have pain on the pinky side of my palm. How is a hook of the hamate fracture treated?
Author: Dr. Jiwu Chen
Doctor’s answer
Hook of the hamate fractures may be missed on standard X-rays; persistent grip pain warrants further evaluation. Some fresh, non-displaced fractures can be treated with immobilization; persistent pain, nonunion, or high athletic demands may require excision or internal fixation to prevent further damage to nearby tendons and nerves.
