Anterior knee pain
Does medial plica syndrome of the knee require surgery?
Author: Dr. Jiwu Chen
Doctor’s answer
Most patients can first improve by reducing provoking activity, controlling inflammation and pain, and strengthening the quadriceps and hip muscles. When long-term anteromedial knee pain, snapping, or catching persists despite non-operative care, and imaging and examination support plica impingement, arthroscopic treatment can be considered.
