Anterior knee pain
Can patellofemoral pain recover with rest alone?
Author: Dr. Jiwu Chen
Doctor’s answer
Rest alone often relieves pain only briefly, and symptoms may recur after returning to sport. Treatment focuses on quadriceps and hip-abductor strengthening, patellar tracking control, running and jumping load modification, foot-ankle alignment assessment, and movement retraining. Persistent pain requires assessment for cartilage injury, plica irritation, and patellar instability.
