Meniscus injury

Why is a meniscus root tear especially important?

Author: Dr. Jiwu Chen

Doctor’s answer

A meniscus root tear can greatly reduce the meniscus’s ability to share load and absorb shock, making joint loading resemble a knee with little meniscal function. Medial knee pain, squatting pain, effusion, or sudden pain should prompt assessment. Some patients need root repair to protect the joint.
