Sports Emergencies
After a severe knee sprain or dislocation, the shape has returned to normal. Do I still need emergency evaluation?
Author: Dr. Jiwu Chen
Doctor’s answer
Yes. Multiligament injuries may accompany vascular or nerve damage, and even if the joint self-reduces, it can endanger blood supply to the lower leg and foot. Prompt evaluation of circulation, sensation, and motor function is necessary, followed by stabilization and ligament repair or reconstruction planning. Coldness, numbness, or weakness in the foot requires urgent attention.
