Does long-standing patellofemoral pain require surgery?
Author: Dr. Jiwu Chen
Doctor’s answer
Most patellofemoral pain improves with non-operative care, including load modification, quadriceps and hip strengthening, flexibility work, orthoses, or taping. Surgery is rarely the first choice and is considered only when symptoms are severe and prolonged, non-operative care fails, and a clear structural problem is present.
