Patellar instability
Does recurrent patellar dislocation always require MPFL reconstruction?
Author: Dr. Jiwu Chen
Doctor’s answer
Not always. Surgery depends on the number of dislocations, patellar tracking, trochlear dysplasia, TT-TG distance, limb alignment, osteochondral injury, and sport demands. Recurrent dislocation or clear anatomic risk factors often warrant assessment for MPFL reconstruction and other corrective procedures.
